Orleans
Fast becoming Melrose Village, downtown Orleans is a unique combination of crafts, antiques and fine arts from internationally-known artists. The October Applefest and Orleans Country Christmas bring a festive atmosphere to the community and their welcomed visitors. Orleans was originally called Melrose and it was located a short distance from its present site. It was laid out and platted by D.N. Smith, the noted site locater for the Burlington Railroad in 1872. It was named for Orleans, France, although some claim Orleans, Massachusetts.
